Evolving from Hybrids (HV) – the pillar of next-generation ECO Cars

The plug-in hybrid vehicle, based on hybrid technology developed over many years, adds both an external power-source recharging capability and an increased battery capacity. This is the “rechargeable” hybrid. The PHV can be charged by using standard household outlet. For short distances, it can be driven by EV mode *1 and since PHV runs as a conventional hybrid mode for longer distances, it contributes to a prevention of air pollution with reduced CO2 emissions and lower consumption of gasoline.
*1 Depending on the conditions of the engine and the lithium-ion batteries, usage of the air-conditioning, way of driving (sudden acceleration or exceeding a standard speed) and road conditions (hills, etc.), the EV mode may be deactivated and switch to operate the engine regardless of the remaining battery level.

  • For both daily use and for a long trip

Even when the battery charge is empty, the PHV will continue operating in hybrid mode. Never have to worry about running out of the battery power while on a long trip.

In a power failure, such as a natural disaster, the PHV is also available as an emergency power source.
In the interior of the car, AC100V outlets – the same as household wall sockets – are placed in two locations so that personal computers and other household appliances *2, or battery-powered electric motor assisted bicycle rechargers can be used.
By inserting the vehicle power connector (equipped with a power switch and water-proof cover) into the recharging port, the vehicle battery can be used as a 100V power source. The flashing light on the indicator makes it possible to check the electric charge.
